i was a born in.
both parents are uber dubs and mother has been depressed lately.
so i m super nervous.
Stick to asking them questions that you know they don't want to answer, rather than telling them things that you know that they don't want to hear.
Don't let them off with crap answers and make them be honest by standards that they profess to keep.
It is a fine line to tread., especially when both parents are full on JW nutters. Sending them an email crossed that line.
You need to get your parents off guard. They have to know that they need to defend their descision to remain with a church with a history of prophetic failure.... Failures that they know about, but pretend/prefer to ignore. Try to bring up statements that you heard them make.
I didn't say it was easy.
Take it sloooooowly. Your parents are psychologically damaged from many years in the cult, so don't expect that you can extract them in a couple of weeks.
hey i'm new here, i've been reading up so much here and on other sites about tatt and it has really settled a nagging feeling of doubt within me.
truly i have been lied to and have been trapped in this cult.
i've been suffering with depression, anxiety, attempted suicide, hospitalization, anti depressants, loneliness all this while being in supposedly surrounded by "the happiest people" on earth.
Welcome to our nightmare, Winnie.
My advice is to not do anything different until you have a plan, a well researched plan that has a hope of a good outcome.
You are really lucky compared to most of us 'born ins' in that you have a non-JW Dad. Lean on him for support. I wish my Dad was a non-dub. Mine is a full blown nutcase.
Stick around and learn and have some fun with us.
Cheers
Chris
a friend of mine recently had his co visit and in the elders meeting the co out-right asked the question: how are the friends doing in your cong.
as regards pursuing higher education?
the co continued...you know in view of all the counsel from the slave regarding the dangers.
Hi thedog1
I assume you do know that the text I was referring to was 1st Kings 18:27
Unfortunately, for many faithful JWs, it is the kids that ignored their parent's WT influenced advice and went and got themselves a decent education that are in the best position to help them in their old age. If they are lucky, they are kids they haven't alienated because they didn't join, DAd, faded or were DFd.
Quoting the experiences of the lucky ones, isn't evidence that the whole JW experience is something to aspire to.
i used to think that loyal jws bought into the wt teachings 100%.. that's certainly what the gb wants and expects and demands.. but then i encountered some jws who believe it all except for the opposition to higher education.. they think the gb is wrong about that, so all of the children are college educated.. others seem to believe it all but quietly celebrate family birthdays and various holidays.. these aren't people who are fading; they just ignore a few wt teachings that they don't like (despite the risks of being disciplined).. have you seen similar examples of active jws who are doing all the wt-approved stuff except for specific areas where they just ignore what the gb says is required?.
.
I not only see that, but I see JW's using those 'weak in the faith', or borderline JWs as examples to trick the unwary into thinking that JW's are 'normal', or less culty than they really are.
Every time a JW tells a potential convert, (or ex-Dub for that matter), an 'experience' that makes them sound 'safe' they are leaving out relevant details that they really don't want to discuss if the right questions are asked.
you all should be ashamed of your egotistical selves.
how can you leave god's organization to celebrate the work of satan the devil?
it just goes to show you how jehovah's christian witnesses are correct about how persons will leave the truth for their own selfish desires.. first off, christmas is a pagan holiday and it proves no spirit with the almighty jehovah and his son, the christ.
Christmas is unscriptural and fraudulent!
Like the WT's Armageddon and Paradise are not?
My parents sold scores of people and their families the WT's Santa and he never bothered to show up. Their retirement plans of moving into the rich and famous' houses and eating from their grape vines were as real as any story any parent told their kids about Santa.
Now they want their kids, some of whom they shunned for not falling for their BS JeSanta, to bail them out of mess the WT talked them into creating for themselves.

WT March 15 2014, page 21
8 Simply put, adult Christian children
have an obligation to make sure that
their parents’ material needs are met.
So.... the parents have an obligation to deny them the opportunity to do well in life and, when Jehovah doesn't bother to drag his sorry arse out of his privy and fulfil the promises the WT made on his behalf, the kids don't have the right to leave the parents in the mess they created for themselves by relying on the WT's doomsday madness as a retirement plan.
my in-laws are taking my little boy to a different state for small trip and the want me to create a document stating they are allowed to take him over state lines.
which is fine.
my husband would like for me to construct the document and include information concerning medical decisions and that they are only to be made after contacting the parents.
If you are going to leave your 6 year old in the company of fully blown cult members, you just have to cross your fingers and hope for the best. If there is a medical emergency, they might just choose to conveniently forget to show the medics a document that goes against their 'Bible trained' consciences.
